The Eastern Surfing Association’s 2014 Northeast Regional Surfing Championships presented by Imperial Costa Rican Cerveza is coming to Long Beach Island, New Jersey on May 9-11th.

The ESA is the largest amateur surf organization in the United States.  Established in 1967, the non-profit ESA will bring over 200 competitors to the resort area for three days of exciting surfing and SUP surfing competition.

“We are thrilled to bring this event to central New Jersey,” says ESA Executive Director Michelle Sommers.  “ESA competitors from Southern New Jersey all the way north through Maine and the Great Lakes will be coming to LBI for a chance to qualify for the ESA’s Championship event (The Easterns®) in Nags Head, North Carolina in September.”

The ESA’s Central New Jersey District is hosting the event.  Directors Pat Emery and Donna Fortney, along with ESA Northeast Regional Director Lester Priday, have been dedicating much of their time to provide competitors and spectators with a first-class event.  “We’re very appreciative of how we’ve been treated by the leaders and the people of LBI.  The local business community has been extremely accommodating and generous to us during the entire planning process,” says Fortney.

ESA Northeast Regional Director Priday adds, “We’re stoked to be in New Jersey and to help boost area business.  We want to thank everyone in LBI for welcoming us to their resort and supporting the ESA!”

The action will get started with adult events this Friday, with all youth competition scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.  A live, streaming webcast will cover all three days of competition on the ESA website (www.surfesa.org). Spectators are also welcome to come out to Holgate (West McKinley Avenue) at the southern end of Long Beach Island to check out the competition in person.

The ESA wants to thank the national and local sponsors for this event.  Imperial Costa Rican Cerveza, Reflekt Polarized, johnnie-O, Sick Trix, Equity Prime, Surf Taco, Catch Surf, Wawa, Ron Jon Surf Shop, Causeway Honda, Thomas J.
