12060057_10206623252353685_1205017066_oThe Eastern Surfing Association offered an exciting day of surfing on Wednesday with its Easterns® GoPro Open Shortboard Division in extreme ocean conditions.  Rodney Logan, ESA’s co-director of its North Central Florida District and All-Star Team Mentor, took the win of the organization’s most coveted division.  Logan out-surfed three All-Star Team members who are all less than half his age of 46!

“We had both semi-final heats filled with ESA All-Star Team members who are some of the best surfers within the ESA,” says Michelle Sommers, ESA Executive Director.  “They were contending with junky, double-overhead waves and winds in excess of 25 mph.  Every surfer who paddled out was truly dedicated and understood that these are typical East Coast conditions.”

Logan is one of the oldest winners of the GoPro Open Division.  “It was the toughest day of surfing of my life,” Logan says.  “I wouldn’t have made it through without the Lord by my side throughout the entire day.”

North Carolina’s Gabe Morvil took second while Spencer Bridges from New Jersey came in third and fourth place went to Simon Hetrick from Maryland.

The forecast for the remaining days of competition is the same with the low pressure system stalling offshore but the competitors are still stoked to prove who is Easterns® Champion!  Watch it live at www.surfesa.org and please support all of our sponsors.  Photos by Mickey McCarthy
