Another benefit of being an ESA member is having access to ESA’s informative online surf courses. Subjects include, but not limited to, surf forecasting, surf workout training, breath training, amateur to pro pathway, WSL priority and judging clinics.
Led by experts in each topic, these courses will be held every Monday, and several Wednesdays, at 7pm. Courses will vary in time depending on information covered followed by Q&A. On average, please plan for 60-90 minutes.
Participants must have a current ESA membership through September 30, 2020.
Check out the upcoming course offerings below:
Monday, April 27, 2020 – Breath & Apnea (Breath Hold) Training with Ricardo Taveira of Hawaii Eco Divers
In this seminar, you will learn proper diaphragmatic breathing techniques to improve body oxygenation. More oxygen into your body means more focus, energy, and awareness. It also makes you hold your breath a lot longer. Everyone can benefit from deep breathing exercises: surf competitors while surfing a heat, big wave surfers challenging bigger waves and all surfers who are willing to feel more comfortable in the ocean.
This seminar is a basic introduction to his full course “Apnea & Surf Survival Course”
Wednesday, April 29, 2020 – Amateur to Pro Surfing Pathway – How does it really work?
Confused about where you should focus your time, attention and travel/financial priorities? Join Brian Robbins, WSL Tour Manager for North America, in a course that will answer these questions, and more, about the pathway that a surfer should take when deciding to jump from amateur to pro. Brian will be joined by ESA’s Head Judge and WSL Priority Judge, David Portch, and East Coast pro surfers who have the experience. Every Monday in May will be an ESA/WSL Judging Course led by WSL judges. (May 4, 11, 18)
Learn how to judge so you can become a better competitor, and judge in your local ESA district. Concepts covered will enable participants to become a part of the ESA judging team. These courses are structured to expand on the ones prior and will be led by WSL judges, along with ESA’s Competition Director Joe Grottola. You are not required to be a surfer, and it is open to all levels of surfers. Perfect for parents and others who may not be interested in competing as well.
Wednesday, May 27, 2020 – WSL Priority Course
What is “Priority” and how does it work? Learn the rules that are being implemented at the ESA regional and Easterns® events for certain divisions. Great for every competitor, parent and anyone who helps run ESA events including judges, announcers and tabulators.
