The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) has opened its 2024 registration for The Easterns, which is its largest annual championship event on the East Coast.  Bringing surfers from Maine through Florida, and the Great Lakes, The Easterns is an invitation-only event that competitors have to qualify for through their local and regional ESA events.  The event is held annually at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina every third week in September.  The dates this year are September 15-21, 2024.

“The Easterns brings together the best amateur surfers on the East Coast,” said ESA’s executive director Michelle Sommers. “This is the event that every surfer strives to gain an invite for as the competition is fierce on the regional level and there is a clear pathway on how they must perform to get there.”

The pathway continues from Easterns into the World Surf League’s (WSL) QS events that are held along the East Coast with dreams of many to land on the WSL’s Challenger series and eventually the WSL’s Championship Tour.

“The ESA has partnered with the WSL so competitors know where they need to go to fulfill their surfing goals as there continues to be a growing number of surfing events all over the East Coast,” said Sommers.  “Many surfers may not have the financial means or ability to travel throughout the US and they don’t have to at this level to start working towards their dreams.”

The WSL will be offering its ECSC Virginia Beach Pro August 21-15 and WRV Outer Banks Pro August 28 – September 1.  They will have one final East Coast event November 8-10 with the Air Force Super Girl Pro in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.  The ESA will be sponsoring slots into these events from its top-ranked competitors.
