The Eastern Surfing Association will hold it 46th Easterns® Surfing Championship at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina beginning Sunday, September 15th. There will be seven straight days of competition featuring the best amateur surfers from the entire East Coast.
“We are excited to be back in Nags Head for this year’s event,” said ESA Executive Director, Michelle Sommers. “The Outer Banks always offers contestable surf and the forecast is predicting a great week of waves!”
Competitors qualified for this event through the three ESA Regional events, which took place this past spring. The nearly 300 competitors surfing in 25 separate divisions will be judged by a professional panel of judges lead by ASP judge, Jeff Klugel.
“The ESA is lucky to have judges of this caliber at this event,” Sommers states. “Jeff has worked hard to put together a great group of judges who represent the entire East Coast. We are really stepping it up this year for our competitors, giving them what they’ve been asking for.” The event also features computerized scoring.
A live webcast of the all the action throughout the week will be available on the ESA’s website at www.surfesa.org. A Contestant Banquet is scheduled for Thursday, September 19th from 6:30-9:00PM at Jennette’s Pier for all the competitors and their families.
Additionally, Surfing America is sponsoring an educational seminar for all ESA members, coaches, parents and the general public on Wednesday, September 18th to give a basic overview of surfing competition in the United States, and outlining the process from the amateur ranks to the pros. The clinic is designed by Erik Krammer of International Surf Services and presented by Surfing America, with the rules and ideals of the International Surfing Association (ISA) and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP).
Event photos, updates and important competitor information will be posted daily on the ESA website and also on the ESA’s Facebook page.
