November 18, 2020 – Rincon, Puerto Rico – Longboarding is gaining momentum in the surfing world as seen this weekend at the Rincon Surf Fest WSL North America Longboard Championships. Competitors competed in pristine conditions at Domes Beach in Rincon, Puerto Rico for the three-day event.
ESA All-Star Callie Summerlin surfed her very first WSL Longboard event by winning every heat through three, stacked rounds to land in the final. Though Summerlin’s talented surfing wasn’t enough to take the win from Peruvian Maria Fernanda Reyes, Summerlin did claim the WSL North America Longboard Regional Champion title.
According to the WSL website, the runner-up finish behind Reyes still earned Summerlin the North America Regional Longboard Title, representing as the only regional competitor in the Final, and a spot on the LT in 2020 as she joins the world’s best.
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to do this event,” said Summerlin. “It was such a great experience surfing with so many amazing people.”
