May 17, 2017 – The Eastern Surfing Association will hold its Northeast Regional Surfing Championship this weekend May 19-21 at 16th street in Belmar, New Jersey across from Eastern Lines Surf Shop. This event is the third and final qualifying event for the ESA’s Easterns® Championship that will be in Nags Head September 17-23, 2017 at Jennette’s Pier.
“The Northeast Regional event brings surfers from New Jersey through Maine and the Great Lakes together for a weekend of surfing competition,” said Michelle Sommers, ESA’s executive director. “This is our third consecutive year in Belmar because it’s a great location with lots of supporting businesses, consistent surf and proximity to competitors who are competing throughout the region.”

Shoots Media will be filming each day to provide daily recap videos which will be posted to social media. A live webcast may be viewed at www.surfesa.org throughout the event by John Ross productions. ESA sponsors Phunky Apparel, OluKai, GoPro, Sharkbanz and Unsinkable Polarized will be on the beach providing sample products and prizes for the competitors. There will be giveaways from Chums, Sticky Bumps and Surfco Hawaii for those attending as well.

The event begins at 7am on Friday with all of the adult divisions running throughout the day. Saturday and Sunday will be the youth divisions. If conditions allow, there will be a memorial paddle out for Mickey McCarthy, ESA’s official photographer who passed away in December 2016.
