The ESA has announced its 2026 recipients of its Marsh Scholarship. The Marsh Scholarship Program was founded in 1981 by former ESA Executive Director Dr. Colin J. Couture to recognize and honor the accomplishments of the Marsh Family of North Carolina and young Mike Marsh in particular. Led by his legendary East Coast family and surfing’s highly respected matriarch, Bette Marsh, Mike set a pioneering example for students everywhere by earning his law degree while simultaneously and successfully waging his own personal battle with cancer.
The purpose of the program is to offer financial aid to deserving ESA student surfers wishing to continue their education beyond secondary school level (college, trade, vocational schools). The grants are awarded to ESA members on the basis of academics and good citizenship, rather than athletic ability.
Congratulations to the 2026 Marsh Scholarship recipients:
Celia Tate Cook - ESA Georgia
“The ESA has been a part of my life for the past 16 years and I am so grateful for their support as I continue my education. I am humbled and honored to be a recipient of a scholarship from an organization that is so important to who I am.”
Mako Musilunas - ESA Northern South Carolina
"Receiving the ESA Marsh Scholarship is an incredible honor, and I'm truly grateful for the opportunity and for everyone supporting me along the way. Surfing has taught me discipline and the importance of pushing myself both in and out of the water. I'm excited to carry those lessons forward as I continue my education and pursue my dreams."
Noah Costa - ESA Southern South Carolina
"I just feel extremely blessed to be a part of this amazing surf community, and I'm thankful for all the years that I have been able to participate in contests. I'm excited to take all that I have learned from this sport into the next chapter of my journey! The support is highly appreciated! Thanks ESA!"
Mikaela Nichols - ESA First Coast Florida
"Receiving the Marsh scholarship is an incredible honor, and I am so grateful for the opportunity and support. My time with ESA has been such a meaningful experience, allowing me to grow into who I am today, build lasting relationships, and become more involved in the community."
